Time to revisit this and reduce stock.
To recap:
I picked up a free mower that burned up the engine, but had a good transmission to fix the busted transmission in my John Deere L110 mower.
It looked like it had the same transmission as the original Deere L110 I got the fire mower to fix.
This thing has a turning radius of nothing.
I can mow around a 12" tree without stopping or backing up, the front tires go nearly sideways.
Speed controls are at the right foot so you can use both hands to steer.
Perfect for yards with a lot of crap to mow around.
It has a L111 hood on it, but it's really a 110
Unfortunately the fire mowers transmission was different enough that I ended up fixing a bigger mower.
See earlier posts...
The big green John Deere GT235 is leaking oil like crazy. I stopped using it last summer when the connection for the electric PTO got swamped with oil and was blowing fuses.
Check out that oil slick on the deck!
I've been using this, but it's less than ideal.
It's a CVT via belt, and it's been throwing the belt lately.
I got a new belt and it runs like a champ, but not as nice as a hydro transmission.
It would also be nice to mow faster and mow around trees without backing up and turning to get closer.
My neighbor gave me this last year.
Runs fine but the steering is super stiff and hard to turn.
It's made by John Deere for Scotts.
It looked to have the same exact transmission, so I pulled it apart.
Here's the Scotts transmission:
and the Deere L110 transmission.
They are close, but different enough I would have to make linkage for just about everything.
Forward/ reverse.
Brake.
Neutral.
If I'm doing all that I may as well put the fire mower transmission in it.
So I looked through my pile.
and looked through my pile
and looked through my pile
and looked through my pile
Ah there it is!
Under the white chair sporting a new hood shell!
After pulling 4 mower decks out, a bagger, and that chair I was able to get to it!
and flip it on it's side!
Yeah you dirty girl, show me all your threads.
A few minutes and multiple curse words it's out!
Notice the reservoir, larger gears and tires.
I think this has an actual drain plug in it too.
Mounting points are the same, the forward/ reverse linkage looks similar, brake is similar and neutral is easy.
I'll update when I can.
