How does it undermine the point? The point is women are more likely to crash planes. The other sentence does nothing to discredit that.

It undermines the point by making it indistinguishable (based on only the information presented) from the hypothesis that it's unexperienced pilots who are more likely to crash planes, independent of sex/gender.

the text says "female pilots were less experienced". it does not follow from this that "less experienced pilots are female"

basic logic, how does it work?
